Green Growth Platform: recycling and environment sector

We are currently No. 6 in the Recycling and Environment Sector, RBS SE100 Index for 2013/4. This demonstrates that our ethical and sound business model is successful.

We are active members of the Green Growth Platform Growing the environmental sectors in Sussex

We were successful with Crest Nicholson at their Kilnwood Vale site in West Sussex. The cost benefit of environmental disposal of construction timber waste has persuaded them to use our service.

The work of community wood recyclers including Mid Sussex WRP was recognised at this year’s National Recycling Awards when their lead body, the National Community Wood Recycling Project (NCWRP), was named Materials Recycler of the Year in the small and medium sized enterprises category.

The National Recycling Awards reward excellence in the recycling sector, and celebrated the hard work of the NCWRP and its members in keeping over 7,000 tonnes of wood out of the waste stream since 2008 through its National Builders Collection Scheme .  This scheme is a pioneering response to the need to deal with wood waste produced by the building industry in the most sustainable way possible. By collecting and sorting waste timber and selling wood which is reusable back to the public, Mid Sussex WRP and 26 other enterprises nationwide are able not only save resources and reduce demand for virgin timber but also to provide valuable work and volunteering opportunities for disadvantaged people.

We have been working with Brighton & Hove City Council and the Brighton & Hove Food Partnership to install a number ofCommunity Compost Bins around the city. This enables local residents to compost their food waste, keeping it out of landfill, and provides a ready supply of compost to community gardens. Please look at the B&HCC website for more information about setting up a scheme in your area.
