Success!
What does it mean?
To some companies its about the Turnover/Profit/New Market Penetration/Share Price (delete as applicable)
To our Social Enterprise, Success is measured by impacts both Social and Environmental .
From an Environmental perspective we have kept over 1500 tonnes of waste timber out of landfill in the last 12 months. Of that, we have made over 200 tonnes of timber available for re-use. This is perfectly usable timber that will go on to become the new shed/shelving/table/rocking horse within the local communuity. This leads to a reduction in demand for virgin timber to be cut down and processed. We have also saved 740 tonnes of carbon from entering the atmosphere (when compared to traditional skip hire lorries)
The Social impact we have could simply be measured by the 5 jobs we have created and the 12 volunteers that attend regularly, except it is so much more than this. Our volunteers are disadvantaged adults that are cared for by
http://www.pericles.org.uk/ . They process our timber and make it presentable for the public to buy. They make commissioned products out of timber. They grow vegetables and salad and strawberries to take home and eat (the strawberries often don’t make it home). They are engaging and sociable and bring a different dynamic to our project and our customers. They are here almost every week and seem to enjoy themselves!
The other success measures that we do not promote enough (apparently):
we are an award winning Social Enterprise
we are financially self-supporting
